Jason “JJ” Lee Hill, age 45, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He was born the son of Scott Hill and Sheryl Palmer on November 19, 1979, in Des Moines, Iowa.

He enjoyed spending his time hunting, camping, fishing, gardening and boating. He spent many hours trapping and mushroom hunting. He had a passion for being an OTR driver, driving for 17 years. He loved watching the Boone National races. His family was a huge joy for Jason, especially spending time with his Uncle Jerry hunting and fishing, as well as spending time with his niece and nephews. He loved his dogs and his cat George who he rescued out of his Grandpa and Grandma's barn. He loved hanging out with his Grandpa, doing yard work, cutting firewood and working on vehicles, tractors, etc. He loved to spend time with his Grandma, cooking together with her while she tried to get him to use a measuring cup but he always ended up doing it “his way” and pouring ingredients straight out of the containers. He also loved cooking and grilling on his own, always sharing the food he made with others. He had a heart of gold, and nobody would go hungry when he was cooking.

He is survived by his father, Scott Hill and step-mother, Diane Hill; his sister, Nicole Palmer; step-brothers, Joshua Miller and Garrett Miller; niece, Isabella “Izzy” Anderson; nephews, Austyn Anderson, Jesse VanDeVoort-Stafford, and Joseph “JJ” VanDeVoort-Stafford; great-nephew, Mateo Leyva; and a host of other beloved family and friends.

Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Sheryl Palmer; and grandparents.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025 with funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home. 105 4th St SW Altoona, Iowa 50009. Burial will take place following at Lowman cemetery in Runnells.
